Agent Mulder is haunted by an old case. A serial killer imprisoned by Agent Mulder exerts a strange influence over him.

[Mulder uncovered a body from an old case on the basis of a dream]
Scully: "Tell me about this dream..."

---

Scully: "Don't you think the car might have been searched at least once already?"
Mulder: "Not by me."

---

El Camino Owner: "Here it is. I've been, you know, detailing it. Dropped the bed shell and did the decals, stuff like that."
Scully: "Thank you."
El Camino Owner: "Honest to god serial killer owned my car? For real."

[Mulder cuts into the seat of the car looking for the missing hearts]
Mulder: "Helping him detail..."

---

John Roche: "Mulder. Long time no see. Got a new partner."

---

Mulder: "Sixteen victims, John. How come you said there were only thirteen?"
John Roche: "I don't know. Yeah, thirteen sounds more magical, you know."

John Roche: "How about this. Sink one from there and I'll tell you."
[Mulder shoots and the ball sails clean through the hoop]
John Roche: "Trust a child molester?"

John Roche: "This man... this man hit me." [Mulder]
Guard: "I didn't see it."
Scully: [entering room] "I did."

---

Scully: "Look, he is playing with you, Mulder. He is committing emotional blackmail and you are letting him. You walked into that room with your heart on your sleeve, he saw vulnerability and he took advantage of it. You had a dream... a nightmare... and you had it because of all the emotions this case is stirring up for you. But, it was nothing but a dream."
Mulder: "My last dream came true... Scully, do you believe my sister, Samantha, was abducted by aliens? Have you ever believed that? No. So what do you think happened to her?"
Scully: "What are you saying you believe now?"
Mulder: "I don't know... I don't know what happened. I don't know what to believe..."

Skinner: [to Mulder] "You're lucky I don't have your ass in a sling!"

Mulder: "How could you know what I said?"
John Roche: "I was watching... from the window..."

Scully: "Sir, I have a clear idea of where he might have done and I am sure that I can catch up with him."
Skinner: "I'll be the one to catch up with him. Where's he headed?"
Scully: "Martha's Vineyard. And I would hope you'd appreciate the uniqueness of this situation and its effect on Agent Mulder."
Skinner: "Now I fully appreciate the effect it has on him, Agent Scully. As I recall that was the sum total of my last words to you on the subject. You let me down. Let's go clean up this mess before it gets out of hand."

Mulder: [to Roche] "Don't make this end badly."

Scully: [to Mulder] "Why don't you go on home and get some sleep."
